A term paper is a written work of a student. It is usually long and the subject is associated with an issue relating to the course study. This is usually required for students as an assignment or as an examination and usually demands tedious research. Opinions can be included in a term paper but this opinion should be backed up by facts or other worthy research material to be considered relevant. Writing such papers promotes the critical thinking of the students. The professor usually requires this to gauge a student's understanding of the class discussion. A term paper consists of different parts. It begins with an introduction of the topic that will be discussed, a thesis, a review of related literature, a methodology, an analysis and interpretation of research data, and a conclusion. The introduction should give a brief and clear description of the topic while the thesis should provide an argument that needs to be answered in the conclusion based on the data that will be gathered through the use of different research methods.
